Freshmen all over the damn place

Wednesday was the “official” opening of the dorms here at IU, meaning one thing and one thing only: freshmen coming to campus by the masses. I went to IUSTV on Wednesday afternoon and every parking space on campus must have been taken up. It was nuts. And starting then (probably until next week), there are multiple groups of new kids walking all over the place. In the daytimes, you see them at the dorms, moving their junk in by the cartload, with their parents minivans blocking not only the circle driveways, but every road even remotely close to a dorm or campus apartments. Then you have these kids and their parents walking around in 3-person cells trying to figure out where everything is. Where is the library, where is the cafeteria, where is the phone booth, all kinds of stupid stuff like that. Then, anytime after 6PM when you drive through campus (or anywhere surrounding the area) you see the kiddies separated from their parents, now walking in packs. I drove down 3rd Street last night around 11:30 and saw at least 6 or 7 groups of freshmen walking towards Kirkwood. Seriously, it was like there is some kind of big magnet drawing the Freshmen to something on the west side of town. Look, kids. You can’t get into bars if you’re not 21. You don’t know where anything is. We know that you’re new. Stop crowding up the roads when I need to park to get to IUSTV. Yarg.

On less of a rant, I’ve realized after seeing the new kids walk around (and of course I laugh an evil laugh when I see people lost or wandering), how far and awesome I have become in the past few years. True, I was a freshman at one point. Now I’m a senior; from one end of the spectrum to the other, I am pretty much at the “King Level” of being on campus. Senior year is going to be mega sweet, just like senior year in high school was the best time ever there. I’m the boss of IUSTV now. They’re making me a new studio and office in Read that will be done in about a month. I’m going to have a pretty easy class load, meaning I get to do fun stuff at IUSTV. I know Bloomington and IU like the back of my hand. It is here for my convenience. Outside of that, I have about one year (a little less) to figure out what I’m going to do in May/June/July when I am done with school, have two degrees, and am going to need to find a way to support myself. Yes, fans, it’s time for Anthony Leong to start looking for a job. That’s going to be a lot of fun. And no, I don’t know if I’m going to work in TV or whatnot, and no, I don’t know if I’m going to work in America or in Japan. Honestly, there are so many things that I would like to do, as long as I find a decent job that remotely interests me and pays decent money, I don’t care where or what I am doing.

There really wasn’t much point to this post either, except to tell how bad parking is on campus, and also to say that I am awesome and senior year is going to be great. Also, if you have any leads or connections to help me land a sweet job, let me know!

Are you serious?

Just one more week. That is ridiculous. In one more week, it will be the night before classes start for the semester. I guess that I’ve done a lot this summer (gone home, went to Japan, met lots of people, moved into a new apartment, started back on IUSTV stuff), but there’s no way I’m ready to go back to school. I’m too lazy for that. I have the rest of this week to enjoy what little I have left of summer (throw a few meetings and stuff into that also).

Another holiday

Well, today (Monday) was ANOTHER Japanese national holiday. Sports Day or something like that. I’m pretty certain that Japanese government officials have no shame in making up random holidays. I’m happy about it though.

It’s always nice to spend an entire day doing absolutely nothing. I slept until the afternoon, watched TV, left to get some dinner, came back and loafed around some more. It’s about midnight now….I’ll spend *maybe* an hour doing some homework, then off to bed.

I’m going to try to figure out my IU schedule for the spring this week before I register. Anyone taking marketing classes in the spring? Or G202 and/or Z302? Let me know; we could take a class together…

(no reason why this is here, I just like it)

IT’S OVAH!

Turned in the case this morning with my team. Phew! Now with I-Core over, I see why it is the main attraction at our business school. It really was a good experience, and the case is definitley intense. I’m not going to be one of those guys saying “oh, business school is so hard, better than everything, blah blah blah,” but I will say that I-Core is tough. Mainly the case, just because you have to do it all in 9 days. Anyone who says that business school is cake needs to go through the I-Core Final Case.

And with that, I begin the countdown. 5 more days until I leave Bloomington (wish I had more time). Then I’ll be leaving for Japan on August 23rd. I’ll be in St Louis in between. Are you ready?

The case continues….

Ops is over.  Marketing tomorrow; Finance and Strategy after that…

I’m becoming used to being at the library very late in the night/early in the morning.
