Stupid technology

At first I thought I was going to write about this girl who rode up the elevator with me: she smelled like a dead zebra. But I think she was retarded or had a disease or something, so I guess I won’t.

One of the dumbest things ever: walkie talkie cell phones. Why in the world would you buy a phone that has this, and then why would you actually use such a stupid feature? The purpose of a cell phone is (or should be) to have private phone calls with the convenience of portability. These walkie talkie phones pretty much kill the “private” part, and also add the factor of making you look like a moron to anyone who sees or hears you. I walked past this kid on the hallway this morning who was using one of these monstrosities (apparently some people think this “feature” is worth having a bigger phone), practically yelling into the thing and hearing the customary scratchy semi-response. And don’t get me started on that “walkie talkie beep.” You know what I’m talking about.

I really don’t get the benefits of using these walkie talkie phones. Why not just call each other on the actual phone? It will be better quality, you won’t be overheard, and most of all, you won’t look like a jackass to everyone around you.

I’m sitting in the library on a Sunday night, working on some M343 (database marketing, super fun) homework. I’m directly across from one of the laser printers in the lab (Indigo, if you’re that curious), and for the last 5 or so minutes have been cracking up to myself at someone else’s misfortune.

There’s this guy, kind of short and stocky, dreadlocks, sandals, etc, and he must be having the worst night ever. I think he’s having problems printing something, as he’s sitting right near the printer with the most pissed off face I’ve ever seen. He was, for a while, leaning over the machine, as if that would help. Then some other people came up to get their printouts, forcing him to sit back on a little table and look even more pissed off. Actually he also looks like he’s going to cry.

Now he’s back at his computer (which is right behind me), and I think he’s having problems still. When his last thing didn’t print right, for the second time I saw, he crumpled it up and huffed back to his desk. I’m sorry, but this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Oh, and now he’s back at the printer, looking at a printout intently. Hahahahahahahaha.

Members of IUSTV,

We are happy to report that the Executive Director position (Kieran’s job) has been filled for next year. Anthony Leong was selected after a grueling interview process, so when you see him around the office, pat him on the back! Congratulations Anthony. It should be a great year!

Grocery store clarifications

So I was grocery shopping today in-between classes to get some food and also some lunch, and there seemed to be a more-than-usual “2 for $…” deals, and also a few “3 for $…” deals. You know, it’s like “2 bags of chips for $4.” These have always been sort of an enigma to me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. You’re always standing there wondering if you HAVE to buy 2 (or 3) to get the deal. Can you just pick up 1 and still get the special sale price? WELL ladies and gentlemen, the answer is NO. I asked the cashier and unless it says “Buy one get one free” or something to that effect, you can just buy 1 of the sale item and get the lower price. The wording must just be the marketing tactic to trick people into buying more than they need. Actually this time I decided to play it safe and did indeed buy 2 packs of soda and 3 bags of cheese cubes. But no more. Now that I have official word from the inside, I’m just buying one of everything from now on.

You’d think I would have actually just gone and asked an employee at some point in the past 21 years. Nah, I’m too lazy.

This was, of course, at the grocery store (Marsh). I think Sam’s Club might be different, maybe because everything there is in bulk. I was there over the weekend and I did indeed have to buy 2 bags of chips to get the deal. Oh man this is confusing. I don’t need 3 boxes of cookies!

Whew, that’s over.

This past week was pretty grueling. Monday – M343 exam. Tuesday – Z302 team exam. Wed – Z302 regular exam. Thurs – M303 exam. Fri – RYP taping. So yeah, things were a bit busier than I usually like. I actually was studying on most nights! Yeah that’s not something I particularly like to do.

It’s finally the weekend, so there’s not a whole lot to do, which is just how I like it. I’m going to watch some TV, maybe actually play some video games, and just be lazy like usual. I have a few things to do, but nothing major. This coming week looks like a joke (the Outlook calendar actually has some white space!).

Oh, and the Honors College gave me an extra scholarship for my “internship” at IUSTV this semester. At least I have some executive salary from that. Thanks again, honors college! haha….
